On 5 August 2025, the Lebanese Environment Forum, in collaboration with the University of Balamand and the Marine Protected Areas Network – Lebanon (MPAs), hosted a webinar titled “Mediterranean MPAs Under Pressure: Local Management and Legal Approaches.”
The event brought together experts and practitioners to address the growing pressures facing Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and to share effective local management practices and legal frameworks for their protection.
Speakers included Lluis Toldrà, Renaud Dupuy de la GrandeRive, Fadia Joumaa, and Choucri Haddad, with moderation by Abbas Zahreddine. Discussions covered legal enforcement challenges, community engagement, sustainable marine resource management, and the urgent need for stronger regional cooperation to safeguard the Mediterranean’s biodiversity.
