His Excellency President General Joseph Aoun received at the Presidential Palace a delegation from the Lebanese Environment Forum (LEF), during which the main projects and initiatives led by the Forum and its member associations to protect Lebanon’s nature were presented.
The Forum’s president, Eng. Malek Ghandour, presented a comprehensive memorandum to His Excellency outlining the Forum’s achievements in promoting nature reserves and “Hima” areas, and its efforts to establish a network of terrestrial and marine protected areas to achieve the 30×30 goal — protecting 30% of Lebanon’s land and sea by the year 2030.
The meeting addressed several sensitive environmental issues, including hunting (terrestrial and marine), integrated coastal management, quarries and crushers, river and marine pollution, and violations affecting the upper basin of the Litani River.
President Aoun emphasized that the environment is a cornerstone of national life, expressing regret over the worsening waste crisis and the delay in finding solutions despite the funds spent, and warning against the deterioration of nature and the spread of diseases.
He also stressed the importance of reforestation, increasing the number of nature reserves, and strictly enforcing laws against those who harm nature, engage in illegal hunting, or cut down trees.
In conclusion, His Excellency welcomed the national ceremony to announce the “Green-Blue Network”, which aims to protect 30% of Lebanon’s land and sea
